Adventures in Morning Reading

My fixed morning reading habit started in early October last year. It really has been one of the easiest habits I’ve ever acquired and there’s a good chance I’ll keep it ’till death do us part 🙂

Over these ten months, I’ve read the eight books linked below:

  • The God Species by Mark Lynas. Read it if you’re interested in the future of our planet.
  • Atomic Habits by James Clear. Read it if you recognize the power of habits, but are struggling to make it work in the real world.
  • Make Your Bed by William H. McRaven. Read it for a little bit of general life inspiration.
  • Deep Work by Cal Newport. Read it if you are a professional in the knowledge industry.
  • The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy. Read it to get a proper understanding of the power of compounding and the importance of consistency.
  • Dream Teams by Shane Snow. Read it to learn how to assemble and maintain successful teams.
  • Thinking, Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman. Read it if you are interested in the workings of the human mind (be warned that this is a bit of an intellectual marathon).
  • Willpower Doesn’t Work by Benjamin Hardy. Read if if you want to learn about the power of shaping your environment and how to apply it.

This insignificant investment of 5-10 minutes each morning has definitely made me a more effective person. I’d recommend this awesome habit to anyone who’d listen!

Another key recommendation is to make your own summary after finishing each book. Take an hour or two to flip through once more and note down the key insights. Focus particularly on what you can apply in your own life. This practice will greatly increase the value you get from each book.

Tomorrow, we wrap up the topic of early-morning reading. See you then!
