Revitalizing Movement

As introduced yesterday, the theme of this week is to never exercise just because you know you should. Instead, all exercise should come as a byproduct of engaging in other beneficial activities. This is the most natural and sustainable road to healthy fitness levels.

Today, we take a look at some fun alternatives.

Sport

Sport is a great way to get fun and exercise at the same time. Many sports also have a strong social element, further adding to the good times. Indeed, finding one or two sports you genuinely enjoy is a great way to automate exercise in your life.

Luckily, the world of sport is incredibly diverse offering something for everyone. Don’t believe me? Take a look at this ridiculously long list of sports that are actively practiced worldwide. Each one is a potentially fun way to move your body. Somewhere in this list is something for you 🙂

Of course, as also discussed yesterday, starting from an unfit state can be difficult. If you’re just starting out, it’s very important to gradually build up your fitness without risking injury.

Nature

There’s something special about getting out in nature. Even if it’s just your local park, seeing some trees and birds is good for the soul. Nature is an excellent antidepressant and could even offer some great inspiration.

Yes, regularly getting out in nature can be difficult for many residents of the urban jungle. But it is worth the effort. In fact, nature has some serious clinically proven health benefits

In short, exercise can be genuinely fun and revitalizing. Get yourself a favorite sport, even if it’s darts or ten-pin bowling. Get out in nature, even if it’s just your local park.

Then join me tomorrow when we discuss how we can bring some automatic movement back into our passive desk jobs.
