Making Nuts, Seeds and Berries Part of Your Life

Two weeks ago, we had some good times discussing the world’s best foods. This week, we have a simple mission: make regular consumption of these superfoods a totally automatic part of life.

There are good reasons why these superfoods are not nearly as well represented in modern diets as they should be. This week, we’ll identify these reasons and eliminate them one by one.

Let’s talk strategy

Making a food a permanent part of your life typically requires three elements: great taste, high practicality and reasonable cost.

In this case, practicality will be the most challenging aspect for most people. You can’t buy nuts, seeds and berries in one convenient package. Often it will not even be possible to buy them all in the same supermarket.

So, the first thing to do is to find the best suppliers in your area. Most supermarkets will have reasonably priced packs of mixed (unsalted) nuts. Frozen packs of mixed berries should also be available, whereas fresh berries will depend more on location and season.

Seeds are the bigger challenge. As people demand more healthy foods, seeds are certainly becoming more popular in supermarkets, but you may still struggle to find a good variety at reasonable prices.

The ideal solution I’ve found is to buy seeds in bulk from an online health food outlet. This is both highly practical and cost-effective (about 3x cheaper than small packs in my case). Have a look online if something like this is available in your area.

Once you have your cost-effective and varied supply of nuts, seeds and berries, it really helps to premix larger batches of seeds and nuts in containers. Such a mix allows you to make the delicious breakfasts linked below in no time.

We’ve talked about nuts, seeds and berries before as part of the morning routine chapter of Supermorning. Check out the two example breakfast recipes given here and invest some time to experiment with your own versions using ingredients available in your area.

Any breakfast based largely on nuts, seeds and berries will be a big asset to your life. They really offer the perfect combo of health, taste, practicality and budget. In addition, their slow and steady energy release is great for controlling cravings and energy levels throughout the day.

Please give this a go! Then I’ll see you tomorrow when we tackle the challenging topic of raw green veggies 🙂
